Google's 100,000 Machines

Just read this article on CNN.com about how open source software runs much of the internet and email. No surprise there, but what did surprise me was that Google has an estimated 100,000 computers handling their search capabilities (bottom of the article). For some reason, I find that just mind-boggling. I knew they had several thousand machines working all the time, but never figured 100,000. That's a lot of equipment. Can you imagine the housing facilities and the operations they have in place to manage such an environment? Amazing, simply amazing.
