Firefox Find Functionality

Anyone used the Find functionality in the Firefox 1.0 preview release? It's pretty nice. When you type Ctrl-F, a thin box appears at the bottom so you can enter your search criteria. As you're typing, the browser is trying to find the first instance of the phrase on the page. It even beeps at you if the phrase is not found on that page. A nice little twist on something so common.

Update: As Darrell correctly points out in the comments, you can just start typing the word and the browser will start trying to find it and highlight it. But to get this to work, first turn on the “Find As You Type” option (under Advanced, Accessibility).

You don't even need to hit ctrl+F first. Just start typing and it will find the word. Before I tried it, I was like "big deal." Now, though, it sucks when I try to do it in IE. :)

They must have added the Find As You Type option somewhere between 0.8 and PR1. I'm such an upgrade slacker!

It was PR1 it was added. In 0.8 and 0.9 (i cant remember if it was in firebird) the find as you type was just for links, which I find more useful, and i'm sad that its gone.
Anyone know how to turn this back on??

Type ' (apostrophe) to trigger Find-As-You-Type-Link.

Is there a way to disable the noise that gets played when what you're searching for doesn't get found in the page? That's really annoying. It's a cool feature besides that, but I want that noise to be optional.

To turn it off -- go to about:config and change the setting for: accessibility.typeaheadfind.enablesound and set it to false. That will disable the sound.
