Ever since I got my new Dell Inspiron 6000 a couple months ago, I've had display issues when I hook it up to external projectors. As you can imagine, this is a real pain when giving a talk, which I've done 4 or 5 times since then (still with no fix in sight). For some reason this affects PowerPoint the most, which is perfect since that's the one thing I need for a talk. Thankfully there are no major snags with Visual Studio otherwise I'd really be up a creek.
Anyway, I was giving my “Writing Quality Code” talk to the Columbus XP User Group last week and the display issue happened again. Luckily, I've given that talk so many times that I don't really need the slide deck anymore, but for some reason I decided to keep PowerPoint open anyway. On this day PowerPoint was unusable because my display adapter would increase the font for each slide to it's maximum size. As you can see in the picture below, it had an “interesting” effect:

I don't know about you, but I prefer not to perform ass testing and if I do, I certainly don't tell anyone about it. The best part is that I had no idea that was shown on the screen at the time. Corie, a member of the .NET user group and frequent visitor to the geek dinners, was in the audience and snapped this picture with his camera phone. He then promptly emailed it to me. Awesome.
And even though I am posting this on April Fool's Day, this was no joke. It really happened.
