Wow, it's been quite awhile since my last post. I think this is my longest blog drought since I started this thing. Why? Mainly because of the project I'm on. It's pretty intense and the 1.5 hour commute *each way* has a lot to do with it. People don't realize it but that much driving, and doing it for several months, really saps the energy out of a person.
And this time of year is bad because of my boys' baseball schedule. See, I flat out refuse to miss any of my kids activities. There are some people in this world who think, “I can miss his game tonight because there will be others”. My take is that as soon as you think that, there won't be any more games and 20 years will have gone by without you knowing it. I refuse to let myself fall into that trap. My career and profession is definitely important, but it doesn't override my kids. So on nights that my kids have a game, I drive home in time to get a quick change of clothes and then we're off. Which means until their seasons are done, I have to make the long drive almost every single day (as compared to over the winter when I could stay overnight one or two nights through the week to avoid driving every day).
Sooooo... because of all this I've struggled in recent months keeping up with the developer community at large. I've not read many blogs (and have barely posted myself), I haven't been able to attend the last 5 CONDG meetings, have fallen behind on enhancements to CodeKeep, have slacked on contributing to the upcoming book, haven't kept up on all the stuff I get from my MVP lead, etc, etc. I could go on and on, but you get the picture. There is some light at the end of the tunnel, but we'll see how it goes the next couple months.
Anyway, I'm not sure what the actual point of this post is (jeesh, did I forget how to write already?), but thought I'd share. Hopefully I can get back into the swing of things sooner rather than later.
