I'm a big music guy and constantly get irritated with all the crap on the radio these days; most of it is just straight junk. Rock, heavy metal, punk, and alternative are my music flavors and while we are lucky enough in Columbus to have
CD101, it only satisfies my music appetite up to a point. And because of that I always have several CDs in the car that I can pop in when needed.
But like anyone else that's big into music, and much like DJs, I tend to have several different sets/playlists/rotations that I listen to, depending on the mood I'm in. This causes me to load the car with lots of CDs that I'm changing all the time or I burn sets to CDs and go that route.
A few weeks ago I thought that it sure would be nice if I could just load a bunch of music on my 1GB USB thumb drive and plug it into my car stereo and just let the good times roll. Sure enough, I did some research and there are plenty of car stereos on the market that do just that, plus provide the ability to hook up an iPod if you have one of those fancy doohickeys.
So after a couple trips to
Best Buy to check out some car stereos (with my USB thumb drive loaded with music), this past weekend I bought the
JVC KD-G820 and had it installed (along with new front and rear
Pioneer speakers; the old ones had taken a beating - HUGE difference). Notice the USB slot on the right side of the faceplate. Pure joy, nothing but pure joy. Everything works as simply as you'd expect it to, just insert your USB drive into the slot and you're good to go.
Of course, I immediately wondered why I didn't do this for the 13 months I was driving 3 hours a day, but eh, what are you gonna do :-)
